Happy birthday, Second Life!

Happy birthday, Second Life!

It’s Second Life’s official 14th birthday! Fourteen big years of giving us hours of fun and laughter, bridging distances and connecting people all over the world in one big virtual sandbox that inspires creativity and stimulates imaginations. A medium where people have expressed themselves in various forms of music, art, play, and communication. Its community even going as far as organizing charities to give humanitarian aid to those in need, or to support a worthy cause that goes beyond the confines of the platform into the physical world.

This year’s theme is Carnivalesque, which is so colorful and fantastic, befitting what Second Life is to most of us. I can’t state enough how much I love it when Second Life throws its own birthday party! One entire month of shopping, free gifts, live music performances and djing events as well as opportunities to meet and listen to key members of the community and some of the staff of Linden Labs. The chance to see your community, the sl community, and be part of this big event excites and overwhelms me. But if all those don’t interest you, what about the opportunity to see 18 sims full of exhibits from artists, creators, role play communities, builders, and fun amusing rides that showcases what can be found in the farthest reaches of Second Life? You just might find that new activity you have been looking for in one of them or discover something new and interesting to explore for the rest of the year!

Today might mark sl’s official birthday but the celebrations have been going on since the early part of this month. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you really should as the parties, special events, only go on until the 25th. The exhibits will remain open until July 2 next month.
